New Album for The Phoenix Foundation Posted: Sun Mar 7, 2010 10:32 am We’re very, very pleased to announce that our brand new album Buffalo is now finished, and will be released in NZ on MONDAY 26 APRIL 2010! The new first single and album title track ‘Buffalo’ is released to radio next week, AND then, for a very limited time will be able as a FREE DOWNLOAD, along with an exclusive non-album B-side. Listen out to the b.net breakfast this coming Tuesday 9 March for the first chance to hear the new track, and the free downloads will be available from next Thursday onwards! More info soon. Buffalo will be released and available in physical and digital formats, AND as a limited edition 12’’ vinyl release. A limited number of Collectors Edition Packages will be available from our website, with pre-sales starting from March 29. Initially recorded at The Car Club, Buffalo was eventually finished with producer Lee Prebble at The Surgery in Newtown, with the help of Brett Stanton. We think it’s our most collaborative and unique work thus far. A combination of the avant-garde experiments of earlier albums Pegasus and Horsepower and the kaleidoscopic pop of Happy Ending, Buffalo marks a new chapter in the band’s development as The Phoenix Foundation endeavour to create the music of the present for the future. In April you’ll get the chance to hear selected tracks from Buffalo before its released, and in a few weeks time we’ll also be announcing a T.shirt/T.towell design competition – so, budding designers stay tuned. So, lots and lots of things coming your way. We’ll let you know about the free download as soon as its starts, but get in quick as it wont be available for long. Cheers. The Phoenix Foundation |

The Merry Kriskmass EP by The Phoenix Foundation Released Posted: Mon Dec 7, 2009 6:42 pm “I feel no pain, feel no fear, for the Krisk is a white reindeer” …… yes, a small stuffed white man and a reindeer have somehow managed to inspire The Phoenix Foundation’s brand new little EP called Merry Kriskmass, released today in record stores and digital outlets, and perfectly placed to take care of all your ‘Secret Santa’ needs! This very fun, slightly odd little 6-track EP managed to enter the bands lives during the time they were supposed to be recording their new album, providing much needed distraction from the often grueling album recording process. So much so that they’ve decided to release it in the hope that perhaps its brings some extra Christmas cheer, whilst also allowing the band added time to over analyse their future album. The opening song title and (almost) EP title track ‘The Krisk’ is a sprightly little cracker which will soon boast a new video clip produced by the band themselves. For the record, The Phoenix Foundation’s new album is actually coming along nicely and will be presented to your ears in the earlyish New Year. It’s the follow up to 2007’s Happy Ending, which through its recent European release, has just received a 5-star review in one of the UK’s most respected newspapers - The Independent, as well as many nice words from Mojo Magazine (4/5) and Drowned In Sound (8/10). Merry Kriskmass is now available from all good record stores & digital outlets. |

Christmas EP and Single Announced for The Phoenix Foundation Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2009 3:30 pm The Phoenix Foundation will have a new album in early 2010, but first they’re releasing a Christmas EP called MERRY KRISKMASS! It will be available both physically and digitally from December 7, and as a limited edition 12’’ (release date coming soon). Following in the footsteps of other radio-friendly, smash hit artists like Cliff Richard & The Darkness, MERRY KRISKMASS will include The Phoenix Foundation’s first ever Christmas single ‘’EVERYBODY’S MONEY’’. Although technically nothing to do with Christmas, it will be on the Christmas EP, will be released around Christmas, and is a very nice song. The Krisk is a small stuffed white man who rides a reindeer. This incongruous character has inspired a nice little EP, which shows a different side to the band, and the same sides all over again. MERRY KRISKMASS was recorded at the Car Club & Surgery Studio with Lee Prebble & Brett Stanton during the recording of their soon (but not very soon) to be released fourth studio album, of which the title is almost decided but still unknown. 'Everybody’s Money' goes to radio this week, AND in the very near future it will also be offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD for a limited time. Join The Phoenix Foundation’s mailing list now for more details @ http://www.thephoenixfoundation.co.nz/ Finally, The Phoenix Foundation are absolutely delighted to be playing support for Jarvis Cocker at the Wellington Town Hall on 3/12, and The Powerstation, Auckland on 4/12. Tickets are still available from www.ticketmaster.co.nz (09 970 9700) & Real Groovy Records, but get in quick! |

The Phoenix Foundation 'Happy Ending' makes Gold! Posted: Thu Feb 7, 2008 4:51 pm THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION “HAPPY ENDING” reaches GOLD status Voted ‘ALBUM OF THE YEAR, 2007’ – NZ HERALD, Dec 28, 2007 “This record is like the beautiful feeling of falling asleep in a hammock out the back of a faded old beach house and dreaming of epic vistas and love affairs… The Phoenix Foundation write really good songs… a beautiful record indeed” – NEIL FINN, January 2008 The good lads who rise as the Phoenix (Foundation) can add another string to their bow of achievements, as this week their critically acclaimed 3rd studio album HAPPY ENDING, achieves sales in excess of Gold! The darlings of indie-pop are breaking into new territory with the release of their second single ‘Bleaching Sun’, a song that evokes summers of old, cricket on the lawn, short shorts (before they came back… again) and guitar sing alongs. Whoever can compare an icy heart to a cold 6 pack is going to be alright with us. Receiving their first jaunt on to commercial radio with ‘Bleaching Sun’, this song will identify with anyone who loves nothing more than good kiwi music. HAPPY ENDING the album is called, but we think it is the beginning of something beautiful. |

'Bright Grey' single/video released Posted: Sun Sep 30, 2007 3:09 pm 'Bright Grey' – the first single from The Phoenix Foundations highly anticipated 3rd studio album 'Happy Ending' has been released and is now available for download online through iTunes, Digirama, and also Telecom and Vodafone Mobile phones. The follow up to their gold selling album 'Pegasus' released in 2005, 'Happy Ending' will be released through Flying Nunn Records on October 8. "'Bright Grey' started its life as synthy instrumental thing for possible use in the film 'Eagle Vs Shark'. The demo was very pleasing indeed so the band stole it back for our own filthy purposes…. the lyrics are a direct result of the cosmic malaise that came over New Zealand during that crazy period when were visited by a comet. Its kind of future angst as imagined by a 12 year old boy in 1983. A distopian nightmare of our own boredom." Says Vocalist/guitarist Samuel Flynn Scott New 'Bright Grey' Video: The amazing new video for the single was released to Music Television this week. The video, shot in Island Bay, Wellington over one, long 16-hour day in mid August, was directed by Oscar nominated Taika Waititi ('Two Cars One Night', 'Eagle Vs Shark'), with whom The Phoenix Foundation wrote the soundtrack for his latest box office film 'Eagle Vs Shark'. Developed by the Samuel Flynn Scott and Luke Buda (who spend way too many hours on you Tube…), the concept was inspired by Japanese ‘synth pop’ legends Yellow Magic Orchestra, and features loads of synths, bored musicians, the ‘Back to the Future’ car, an audience of weird 80’s kids, heaps of dried ice…….and all things cool.. Click here to download Bright Grey iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=157071931 And check out the new Bright Grey video now at: www.myspace.com/thephoenixfoundationnz and www.thephoenixfoundation.co.nz |
