This Night Creeps Call It A Day Posted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:21 am In sad news for anyone interested in vibrant, innovative music, Hamilton's This Night Creeps are breaking up. After several years and two EPs, the band have decided to call it a day for the same kind of reasons that kept the post-hardcore group constantly breaking new musical ground. Anybody who has seen the 'Creeps live know that they rarely play older material, preferring instead to focus on their latest as the band keeps taking new directions in sound. But now This Night Creeps find themselves in a situation where they have not written any new songs in some time. "Without new material The 'Creeps basically don't exist," frontman Luke McPake stated in an email to us, "Our natural state is writing new music. New to our fans but more importantly new to us. Seeing as we have stopped doing this, it must be time to stop playing old songs. As much as we love driving around in vans cracking each other up and drinking beer we have to give this away fo the new opportunities in our lives, be they music, study, art or whatever." The amicable split is going out in style with a final This Night Creeps North Island tour with acts they describe as "friends and favourites." The three-date last hurrah is as follows: Thursday, September 14 - Underground Bar, Auckland (w/The Mint Chicks, White Birds And Lemons, Sunny Tokyo) [R18] Friday, September 15 - The Castle, Hamilton (w/The Mint Chicks, White Birds And Lemons, The Vacants, The New Caledonia) [R18] Saturday, September 16 - San Francisco Bathhouse, Wellington (w/The Mint Chicks, The Vacants, Sunny Tokyo, Fighting The Shakes) [R18] This is quite literally your last chance to see one of the most original genre bands of the past decade... |
