Reflector are a three piece rock band from Palmerston North. Before Reflector was born, they jammed around with a few different members, under the name of Bypass.
During this time, they wrote a few songs, one of which was called 'Reflector'. They then decided to try to make it in the music world as just a three piece, using the name Reflector.
Well, the name stuck, and so has the bands influence on the fans. Reflector has done shows with bands such as Moped, Marystaple, and The Have. They been described as a nice, thoughtful blend of groove-influenced rock. They are inspiring to watch for musicans and fans alike.
Reflector are not just a band, but a continuing evolution of musical style.
Founding member, Jessica Reade along with sister Emily started jamming back in the day, with the hopes of one day starting a “rock band”. After a few entrances and exits of random members, bassist Isaac Smith was mixed into the jam and hey presto! We had ourselves Reflector.
Years 2002-2003 brought them a lot of gigs far and wide; from playing at local venues and pubs, to youth balls and high schools, festivals and parties.
October 2003 saw the recording of the self-titled five track debut CD, all independently written, designed and released with the help of local recording studio The Stomach.
2004 saw the departure of Isaac on bass and the new introduction of Blake Reade on bass and vocals.
With a world of inspiration and an array of musical and artistic styles out there, the band is always growing, changing and morphing; searching for more sights, sounds and colours to express themselves musically.
As for the genre… it’s up to the listener to decide. The name… a belief and an equation that the music we create is, (and should be) a reflection of our true identity.
