EnCanMA

Bio

EnCanMA was formed in Auckland in 1982, initially the line-up was Ljinon, guitar and vocals, Vince Pinker (later Gordons), bass, and Bevan Sweeney (later Childrens Hour and Headless Chickens), on drums. The band thrived on the simultaneous, supporting Dance Exponents (in ChCh), Chris Knox and a then reformed The Clean amongst others in Auckland. Were probably known for the then guitar directions and rhythmic fluidity. Probably also known for the regular crashing of stages, and inventions from their conception.

Ending up in Christchurch in 1982/83 while on tour forced a reshuffle with first Chris Orange (Features), and then Liz Cotter filling on drums. Signed by Blue Factory Distributions, they had a couple of minor releases although 'Tribal War' became a National Student Theme song in 1985 on University Student Radio. With Ljinon having formed 'ECF' in 1983, the band had ceased to exist for awhile. 'Tribal war' being released by Pagan Records in 1987, on the Spins & Needles National Student Radio compilation LP.

Reformed as an in-between name in 1985 by Ljinon, guitars/ vocals, with Shayne O'Neill ('ECF'), guitars/ vocals, and Eric Android, drums/ vocals.

This was a great combo and the band played many gigs up and down NZ, with the release by Pagan Records in 1987 a highlight, again of 'Tribal War', although very much more highly produced. Supported Australian band 'Died Pretty', on their national tour but while on tour changed the name to '3Guesses'.
That kind of put an end to an era... one 3Guesses were to continue with a differing spirit...
