The WBC

Bio

After fifteen long years, the much-anticipated reunion of The WBC has finally been announced. Discussions about reuniting the band have taken place before, but this time it's actually happening!

This December, acclaimed Fat Wreck Chords ska champions, Mad Caddies, will be playing shows in Aotearoa, and in support, The WBC will take the stage once again. Fans can expect the same passion, energy, and infectious grooves that made the band a beloved crowd favorite all those years ago.

Formed back in 1998 and known for their high-energy performances and their residency at the Safari Lounge, the band quickly became a prominent indie force in the local music scene over the next decade. With their unique blend of ska, reggae, and rock, The WBC left an indelible mark, releasing an album and two EPs while touring Australia and Aotearoa regularly.

In 2008, they played their last show at the iconic Kings Arms Tavern, which is sadly gone. But now, the wait is over, and the band is ready to bring their music back to their fans once again with three shows in December, 2023.

Band Members:
Matiu Sadd (vocals, tenor sax)
Andy Pearce (alto sax)
Oliver Emmitt (trombone)
Olly Harris (trumpet)
Stu Preece (guitar)
Rob Sharp (bass)
Ant Davies (drums)
Mike Clarkin (engineer)

The WBC call it quits
Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 8:22 pm
THE WBC are disbanding.

With an all-original repertoire and a reputation for infectious, energetic live shows, The WBC have featured at many of the country's top festivals, including every Rhythm and Vines, Queenstown Winter Fest (2001 – '03), Beach Day Out ('03 – '04) and the Grey Lynn Festival (2004). They have also performed alongside a range of high profile acts - think Bad Manners, Reel Big Fish and Coolie Ranx for starters.

Now after 10 years together, the band will play their final show at Auckland's Kings Arms Tavern on Friday June 6 with support from Skankamelia and 4 Mexicanos.

Extra's needed for new WBC video
Posted: Fri May 7, 2004 8:25 am
Hey, we need some energetic peeps to be in our new music video "Sick Of It". We're shooting it in central Auckland on Sunday the 9th of May.
You'd be needed for 2-3 hours and you must be willing to dance, skank and generally go crazy in front of the camera.

If you're interested email [email protected] and we'll give you some more details

Posted: Sat Nov 8, 2003 9:51 am
Auckland ska/pop band The WBC have landed themselves some substantial backing this week, as the latest latest recipients of the ZM Network's Project nZM campaign.

The package includes network playlisting for 'Ease Ya Mind', from the band's self-funded five-track EP, as well as a ZM Live Lounge performance, Sounds Music Stores in-store signings, interviews, web presence on www.zmonline.com and $25,000 worth of radio advertising on ZM to help sell the bands music.

“Project nZM was developed during New Zealand Music Month this year to ensure ZM was able to continue a high level of support for emerging New Zealand artists,” says ZM Operations Manager Christian Boston.
