Jacky Tar

Bio

Based in Wellington, Jacky Tar are a group of Kiwi, Irish and Scottish musicians playing "funked-up" original and traditional Celtic music.

Using their Celtic roots as a base and adding elements of Rock, Rap, Funk and Dance music, their unique sound is a reflection of the cultural melting pot that is New Zealand.

"..a whirlind of Celtic, Rock, Alternative and Dance influences... Imagine the Mekons let loose on Irish and Scots traditional forms... this is a discovery.." - Froots UK

A combination of drums, bass, mandolin, banjo, Scottish pipes, fiddle, guitars and vocals they have produced two recordings - 'Poor Mans Labour' and 'Defenestration' (Finalist NZ Music awards 2002). Their sound has been described as New World Music and has seen them negotiate their way around two tours of Europe.

Band Members:
Andy Kerr (guitar, vocals)
Grant Shearer (highland pipes, small pipes, whistles, vocals)
Manu Scott (bass, vocals)
Nick Swan (banjo, mandolin, vocals)
Mo (drums)
