Jason Dinesh 'Lankino' Bandara hails from the war-torn Indian Ocean island of Sri Lanka. Growing up in the city of Kandy in the Central Province, Lankino's music reflects the fusion of cultures and urban music inflences of his island nation.
Parts of Sri Lanka was heavily influenced by trade, warfare and assimilation with Portuguese since early 1500s. Lankino's fascination with this forgotten episode of Sri Lankan history made him embark on a journey to relate his experience in a latinesque sound.
Since the rise of reggaeton and latin urban music, Lankino who was already fusing hip hop with traditional latin american sounds, ended up linking with Cuba's formiddable underground music machine Trespeso Music with urban muisc maestro Kiki Pro, along with Goblin Records' Tony Trauma.
During his stay in the historic city of Santiago, Lankino, Kiki and Tony recorded an album of 12 tracks, shot two videos with David Hernandez and Omar Sagarra. Lankino's journey as an urban musician was elevated to another level with the O.E. Cuba experience. Undeniably edgy and diverse in his sound, Lankino aims to do justice to real life experiences and original sounds.
Lankino's first single "A la E Mama" with Tony Trauma and Regghetto was released in early 2010 and is featured in Polaris Media/Trespeso Music documentary film "Surfing with the Enemy" by Venice the Menace from Venice Beach, California.
His second single "Somos de la calle" (flimed entirely in El Cobre, Santiago de Cuba), made its way to C4, Triangle TV/Stratos Network Australia and New Zealand.
Lankino continues perform and work along with many urban artists from many urban genres in Auckland, New Zealand where he is based currently.
"Come to Cuba with me!" Says Lankino, when asked what he would like to say to up and coming artists. "Lets make good music and have fun doing it, thats what I reckon".
