Frogletter, a Raglan/Hamilton based Jazz/Punk band, have been together since early 2002, although they have been playing together off and on since 1997.
Their style is influenced by the purist forms of both styles – from Jazz musicians such as Wes Montgomery and Thelonius Monk to old-school punk bands like The Sex Pistols and The Ramones.
Although they try for this Jazz-fusion sound, many of their songs also incorporate other styles, such as Ska-punk and Rock.
Members of the band have been involved in the Smokefree Rockquest in 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2003. In 1997 their band The Decibellz was the youngest band ever to reach the regional finals, and in 2003 Frogletter received the Coke Stage Image award at the Waikato regional finals. Frogletter has made it to the regionals every year.
In 2003 they were also semi finalists in the Generator Battle of the Bands, and they have entered other band competitions including the York Street Studios Acid Test at the Temple.
Both Ricky and Sam have studied musical theory and are classically trained in violin and classical guitar respectively; Ricky has attained grade seven in violin. Luke has been drumming since he was about seven.
Frogletter disbanded in 2005.
