Auckland four-piece Dead Letter was formed in early 2002 by long time friends Pawl and Kris. Daryl joined as he had also been a member of Pawl's former band, Kid Nuisance, and Grant was secured for vocals.

Dead Letter have since been honing their act in shows primarily around Auckland, but also as far afield as Mount Maunganui. They describe their abrasive sound as, "a little bit rock, hardcore, punk rock and heavy metal all rolled into one".

The band members are also involved with a variety of other hardcore bands - namely Militia, Kill Me Quickly and Promise of Bloodshed.
