Rank

Bio

If what you are looking for is an awe inspiring story about 4 young men rising above those who told them they couldn't acheive their dreams, and are now a phenomenal success worldwide, well Sorry. Instead what you've got is a rather uninteresting story about four regular guys got together to form a band that would take the world (or the Orewa College auditorium) by storm.

Tony Smith, Sam Gilmore, Bevan Morgan and Rowan Crowe make up this band which started in the small town of Red Beach in March 2001, and moved north to the big smoke of Orewa.

After mucking around for about fifteen years of their life the three, back then accompanied by one Sam Hume, decided to buy some instruments and make a band. Sam got him some lovely drums, Tony a Samick guitar, Sam a Squier guitar, and Bevan.... well he hired a probe bass. After coming up with a catchy name - Angry Fetus, the boys had a few jams, and realised something. Nobody, except Hume actually knew how to play their instruments.

So off they went their seperate ways. Under the guidance of one Michael Donovan (of Elusive Tones Of Wonder fame) Tony learnt the guitar. Sam under the careful wonderings of some guy whos name I don't know, had a couple of drum lessons. And Bevan, well Bevan still hasn't had any bass lessons.

In March of 2001, a year after the Angry Fetus legacy began, a new era in music took place. Bevan, Sam, and Tony, got together and for the first time ever got through a song. GSF. With a new outlook on music the three dubbed this new legacy Rank, and in the few short months they have been together, they have acheived... well not actually a lot, but they're getting there.

And then after their phenomenal success as a three piece Rank became a 4 peice, when Rowan decided he had enough of RPT, and Tony and Bevan decided an extra guitarist would do nicely. After careful negotiations Rank became an official 4-piece and began sounding better than ever.

Then a new leaf in Rank history. A boy by the name of Sam Hume joined in August of 2002. Tony decided he had had enough of guitar and concentrated on the mic, while Sam moved nicely into lead guitar. Within 3-weeks of joining Sam had learnt all of Ranks blistering punk rock melodies just in time to tear down the Masonic in mid September.

Rank have performed with Mumsdollar, Holdfast and Deadwait. They have also performed at Parachute 2001 and were finalists in the Coke SmokeFree Rockquest in the North Shore.

Band Members:
