Primacy are 5-piece alternative metal band from West Auckland. They incorporate a groove metal base with other elements of hard rock, progressive metal and a twist of blues flavour.

Primacy were formed in 2014 after the split of well know local bands The Blacklight Configuration, Overhaile and Heathen Eyes – the timing was right, the songs were right and the team was right, Primacy came together as a collective around guitarist Adrian Brausch's new and unused material from his former band Overhaile.

Their first EP Failure and Sacrifice was released in 2016, and followed by a mini-EP in 2017 III.

In 2018 Primacy underwent a line-up change, which naturally resulted in a stylistic shift in the sound of the band. The songs, along with production took on more of a natural, raw sound, and dropped the death metal hints in favour of a more hardcore tinged sound - whilst still retaining the progressive and blues elements as foundations in the music.

After releasing multiple singles over 2018-19, Primacy's first album Seeds of Change releases on the 22nd of May, 2020. Production began on the album back in 2017 before the introduction of vocalist Rhys Saran, and takes listeners on a journey through the challenges of a band during a period of shifting direction, evolution and growth as songwriters and individuals.
