The Auckland rock and metal scenes have been flourishing in recent years with music created by musicians passionate for hard vocals, chugging guitars, head-banging beats and thundering basslines.
Although heavy metal can be loud and aggressive, it can also be quite melodic and lyrically interesting. Such metal bands are gaining momentum - such is the case with Monolith.
The four-piece band, Monolith was formed in 2019, before the great COVID 19 lockdowns in Auckland. They have their own signature sound that combines classic metal with hard rock, hardcore, groove and thrash metal and metalcore.
Their music consists of fast, heavy guitars, powerful grooving beats, pounding drum fills and intense progressive bass lines. Vocally, they switch between melodic singing, hard vocals, and brutal growls that ties into the heaviness of the songs.
They are becoming known for their powerful live shows, which are sonically heavy with plenty of opportunity to head-bang and mosh. They strive to consistently have lively and energetic shows that inspire the crowd to keep moshing and dancing and singing along to their well-known songs.
Their first single, Destiny Cult, was recorded with legendary rock and metal engineer/producer Dave Rhodes. Their new single, Warhead, was also produced by Dave Rhodes and both are available to stream now on all platforms.
Monolith's members hail from current and defunct rock, hardcore and metal bands such as Invasion of Piracy and Downfall of Humanity.
Combining hard rock, hardcore, punk and metalcore, Monolith plan to release more music in the near future, consisting of original heavy, grooving and melodic material.
Reviewers have noted that their fusion of various sub-genres within the heavy metal field is exceptional and innovative. Monolith are steadily gaining respect and followers on social media platforms and are playing regular shows with eclectic line-ups from the rock, metal and hardcore scenes.
Passion for playing live shows with any genre within the rock, punk and metal field with plans to tour nationally and release music and music videos in the near future. Their performances are energetic as they play their music with great zeal and commitment. Each member brings their unique talent to the stage to create an awe-inspiring show that will captivate their audience completely.
