Landline are a four piece band from Golden Bay who have a reputation for some incredible live shows with the drummer playing trance/dance beats under blistering guitar melodies with retro-korg synths and lush sparse vocals spread over the top. They have toured with Salmonella Dub last to promote their debut album 'Landlines' which got them some great reviews, radioplay and more recently constant airtime on Shortland Street.
After the success and wide spread reviews of their first self titled album 'Landlines', Landline has had no other choice but to continue their emanation and bring forth yet another truly original production. Although experiences putting this album together got a little bumpy with the likes of a self destructing computer, earth power issues and an entity in the mixing desk, their hard work has paid off with the completion of another fantastic album 'The Electric Forest'. All recorded in a studio with no power in a galaxy far away called Golden Bay.
They say the isolation helps create the ambient nature of their music and the lushly diverse lifestyles they lead (location, location) inspires driving dance beats. With those factors mixed together you get an indie/pop fusion with hypnotic trance melodies latticing 'The Electric Forest' together into a musical wonderland.
Remixes on this album include Bennytones with Bo Zwanniken and another glorious team effort with Max Maxwell. Landline are Shayne O’Neill, Dale Westerink, Sally McDonald, Sam Hopely and Aaron Boot.
For those of you who like the lofty sound of U2, 'The Electric Forest' has certainly encompassed tasty licks and highs of a similar nature, where The Clean meets New Order and Slowdive meets early Chemical Brothers. Landlines melting pot of inspirations creates perfect home grown melodic electronic pop - Aotearoa wins again.
