Theia is an alt-pop singer and songwriter whose burgeoning catalogue showcases an artist who is unafraid to push boundaries. She has just released her 99% Angel mixtape.
“Theia is one of the most exciting pop voices to emerge from New Zealand in the past five years” - Billboard
“It’s a glorious, empowering mixtape that harks to the brash “no rules” sonic experimentation of contemporary Charli XCS married with melodies that wouldn’t feel out of place on an early 2000's Britney record” - Tone Deaf
“Set to the type of adventurous soundscape we have come to expect from Theia, there are moments of guitar rock, electro-pop and dance beats all held together with Theia’s unique, expressive vocals” - Women in Pop
Theia first emerged in 2015 with the exquisite R’n’B-infused Silver Second, produced by Alex Hope. She followed it up in 2016 with her breakout hit Roam, which set the scene for the release of her debut EP, earning her three nominations at the 2017 NZ Music Awards and a nod for 'Breakthrough Artist' at the 2017 Georgie Awards. The self-titled EP received widespread radio play in NZ and Asia.
Theia returned in early 2019 with her second EP, Not Your Princess.
“Not Your Princess … combines catchy hooks with clanging, percussive productions that teeter on the experimental/mainstream edge; accessible enough that you can play them over and over again, but left-field and unique - making Theia stand out in a saturated, constantly-growing pop circuit” – Pilerats
The EP received two nominations in the 2019 Waiata Maori Music Awards. Theia has twice made the final shortlist in the International Songwriting Competition. In 2019 she received an honourable mention for her song Candy. In 2020 her song Not Your Princess was awarded third place (Unpublished) and received an honourable mention (Pop/Top40).
Theia has opened for acts such as Sia, Tones And I, LEON and Mika. In early 2020 she performed at Sydney Mardi Gras.
