Made in China is rock group from Dunedin. The group are all senior music students / graduates of the University of Otago. Over two years of regular shows Made in China have built for themselves a formidable reputation as musicians and performers. The band's sound ranges from heavy rock through grunge and metal, and is supported by one hell of a live show.
Made in China released their debut ([semi-]self titled) EP in November 2006, (now out of print), and after a year of regular shows in Dunedin and further afield the band have continued their busy live schedule, continuing to gain support throughout the South Island.
In February of 2007 Malcolm McMaritn joined Made in China as bassist, replacing Sam McKean in this role; allowing McKean to concentrate solely on his role as lead vocalist and front-man. This line-up change marks a new phase in the band's development: immediately following McMartin's joining the group the writing and pre-production for the group's second release began. The 'Heavy Low' EP was released on May 7 2008 at one of the biggest local rock shows Dunedin has seen in years.
The 'Heavy Low' EP represents Made in China's super-heavy live sound and complex songwriting approach; combining rock, grunge and metal influences.
