Taking the Fall formed in early 2005 and have since performed extensively in the Dunedin music scene. A combination of melodic hooks, intense guitars, a dynamic rhythm section and Tom Dysart’s compelling vocal describes their sound. Their stage show incorporates both an aural and visual attack on the audience.
Taking the Fall’s blend of alternative rock infused with metal and screamo influences has already gained them a reputation as a very tight, original act in the local scene, and they have formed a solid fan base throughout the greater Dunedin area. They have built up this support by playing with many talented local bands before moving on to headlining their own shows, as well as supporting numerous touring acts such as Cold By Winter, Streetwise Scarlet, Not Quite Right, and American punk legends Strung Out. Last October they travelled to Invercargill to support Blindspott on their national tour. Taking the Fall also entered the Smokefree Rockquest 2006, and won 1st place in the Otago final.
Taking the Fall’s debut EP, the five-track 'Dead Receiver', was released in mid 2006. Available at Real Groovy Dunedin and via shows, around 200 copies have been sold locally thus far.
With the release of their new single '30,000 Feet', they aim to branch out and get their music in stores and on stations nationwide. In addition, they plan to begin touring more and more, because Taking the Fall are here to be heard.
