Throwing rock, punk, grunge, metal and anything else that takes their fancy into the musical blender, the wide range of tastes of the band members provide the backbone of the unique Bolbox Rex sound.
Kicking around in bands together since high school, it was inevitable that Bolbox Rex would end up making music together, which they did when the band formed in early 2002.
Since then, Bolbox Rex has featured on Squeeze, M2, BFM and performed on the Green Stage at the Big Day Out. They have also toured with Shihad.
Their single 'Severed Tongue' was the first single to be released from the Bolbox stable and featured on a NZ On Air Indie Heatseekers Disc. The single was entirely self funded and self produced, and followed on from the underground success of the 'Something To Prove' and 'What Ya Gonna Do?' demo tracks. 'Severed Tongue' is a high energy, feel good power pop anthem full of big riffs and catchy hooks.
Bolbox Rex also won the Launchpad competition in 2003.
"… they sound like a maxed out, metalled up Green Day." Tom Larkin - Shihad
