Goldenhorse

Bio

Goldenhorse)'s debut album Riverhead was recorded above a peep show and dodgy massage parlour. It was released in NZ in late 2002 and then took a record-breaking 52 weeks to reach the No.1 spot. But as the saying goes, good things take time. Aided and abetted by the singles Maybe Tomorrow, Wake Up Brother and Northern Lights, Riverhead spent over 70 weeks on the local sales charts and sold in excess of 50,000 copies.

In April 2005 Goldenhorse returned with their much-anticipated sophomore outing entitled Out Of The Moon, an engaging and eclectic collection of songs evincing a solid band dynamic and assured artistry. Out of the Moon debuted on the album charts at number 2 and sold over 25,000 copies thanks to strong support at radio and TV for the singles Run Run Run, Out of the Moon and Fish.

{Kirsten Morrell's singing is more sweetly intoxicating than ever before, while the band demonstrate an equally fine, intuitive grasp of atmosphere, texture and melody.

Maddock has pegged a couple of his personal favourites. "One is a song called Fish. It was written earlier this year and it was the last one we recorded and I'm really proud of it. The song starts with a bang and then eases out. It's a little story and it ends in a beautiful way. The other track is a song of Kirsten's called Don't Wake Me Up, it's a rockin' along, disco-y kind of number and I'm really pleased with that as well. Those are two of the highlights for me at the moment."

In 2007 Goldenhorse released Reporter.

What are your thoughts?

This is a newspaper article that I came across recently - what do you think about all this?

Quote:

Fans of chart-topping Kiwi band Goldenhorse should be wary when taking photographs of lead singer Kirsten Morelle. During a recent show one woman near the stage took the opportunity to photograph Morelle on her mobile phone only to have the songstress demand that she stop.

She did, but when a man next to the woman began taking photos on his phone, a confused Morelle stormed off the stage, grabbed the woman's phone, got into a scuffle, and disappeared backstage. Only after the pleadings of her band mates this she return to finish the show.

Not really the sort of thing you expect from top NZ musician's, is it? Sad

The three day event will take place in Los Angeles at the Kev Club, The Roxy and The Viper Room from May the 1st to the 4th. Goldenhorse will follow the performance in the States by re-visiting the UK.

Goldenhorse dropped from NZ Music Awards category
Posted: Wed Apr 16, 2003 6:55 pm
Goldenhorse have been pulled from the 2003 NZ Music Awards 'Breakthrough Act' award category.

RIANZ advises that the entry by the group Goldenhorse has been withdrawn from the Breakthrough Artist category of the 2003 New Zealand Music Awards. The conditions of entry for the category state that groups or artists are not eligible if they or any member of the group have previously been a finalist in any other Tui category.

It seems no-one at RIANZ was aware of the existence of ex-members of Bressa Creeting Cake in the band, which made Goldenhorse ineligible for the 'new band' award, as the RIANZ rules state that bands nominated in the 'Breakthrough' category cannot have members who have been nominated in other categories in previous years.

P-Money is now a finalist and joins The Datsuns and Blindspott in the Xbox / ZM Breakthrough Artist of the Year category. It's not all bad for Goldenhorse though, they're still up for Best Album and Best Female Vocalist.
