D-Super

Bio

D-Super was formed in mid-1998, and includes former members from the Letterbox Lambs and Hustler. D-Super has performed with Shihad, HLAH, Living End and Guitar Wolf.

D-Super have been decsribed as a 60s Rock n Roll, Surf garage punk band. The band had a brief but stormy history. Late 2000 guitarist Johnny Kofoed left and Liam Finn filled in for him at one King’s Arms gig. The band chose to add a keyboard player, Luke Benge (Dave’s younger brother). This line-up played the bFM Summer Series in Albert Park, early 2001. Then mid 2001 bassist Dave Benge moved to Melbourne mid-year in his role as Fur Patrol's manager. He was replaced by Jules Desmond (who also played bass in the Letterbox Lambs).

In 2000 We Ride Tonight and Song For Link were heavily played on b-Net radio stations. The video for their 2001 radio single 16 Songs included a band punch-up which is not the reason why some members of D-Super left. One could hardly film a literal video for the lyric, "I spit fresh blood at the ground, I lost a tooth for every night with you."

The band started 2002 with the song The Moths big on b-Net radio stations nationwide. Following frank discussions between band members after a gig at Indigo, songwriter Marty Squire disbanded D-Super.

Band Members:
Jules Desmond (bass)
Marty Squire (guitar, vocals)
Luke Benge (keyboard)
Dave Geard (drums)

This format of show is surveyed in the USA and the D-Super album reached No.7 on the Alternative Specialty Chart of the radio industry bible Radio And Record.

The D-Super songs USA stations have played (in order of plays derived from show playlists) are:

1. 'Water'
2. 'Moths'
3. 'We Ride Tonight'
4. 'Song for Link'

The D-Super song 'Water' has also appeared on a Magnet magazine free compilation CD which goes to the magazine’s subscribers.

D-Super Frontman Forms New Band
Posted: Mon Sep 2, 2002 5:29 pm
After the huge loss of D-Super from the local rock scene, it was a good day to hear that ex frontman Marty Squire has now formed a new band entitled The Shining Path.

According to Marty \"The band has been assembled from members of various other bands, and a second guitarist was added when Rob moved here from St Louis, Missouri after receiving a message in a dream from the ghost of the original Flipper (the dolphin) saying that he had a mission to complete in NZ.\"

Marty is reportedly very happy to be playing guitar after nearly losing a hand in a car accident. He got a large part of windscreen through his left hand and had to have surgery and surgical skin grafts.
