Bio

Punches are James Duncan (guitar, vocals and bass) and Kelly Steven (vocals and guitar). Kelly and James met while spinning around blind folded playing pin the tail on the donkey at a mutual friends party. Kelly could tell by the way James got the tail on the donkeys face and not the backside that his real talents lie in music, James didn’t mind Kelly’s dinky guitar tunes and decided that he would be able to knead them into something special in his studio. And so they started recording a few songs at his home studio in Mt Roskill. Both James and Kelly were liking what they were hearing so they evolved and have recently become Punches.

Punches are a mix of acoustic and electronic influence, Kelly and James like to keep things varied and different. In the same set playing with backing tracks and other times playing with two guitars and vocals.

Kelly and James are both involved with other musical projects; James is currently a member of SJD and Kelly plays the bass in Voom, they were also both previously in The Pencils together with Greta Anderson (formerly of Superette). The Pencils had two tracks on the first Arch Hill ‘the Hill is Alive’ compilation.

Punches continue to record and better themselves while endeavoring to release a few of their songs into the big wide world in the near future.
