The sonics on Minotaur (the first single and opening track from Bulk Bogan's sophomore slam
selection Suplex) summon up visions of it's namesake - subterranean sub-bass
rumbles moving air and shaking Earth, accented by torturous lamentations laden with labyrinthian reverberations. The lyrics however, speak from the
perspective Theseus, the human slayer of the Bull of Crete, who triumphed over
the unnatural abomination with the assistance of Ariadne and a ball of
navigation-assisting wool. This metaphor was extended (quite some way) to
describe a collection of experiences that guitarist / vocalist Fluffy Von
Fluffz experienced when grappling with toxic masculinity in a labouring
workplace while freelancing in the throes of late capitalism and and
"living the dream". They share their thoughts on the bad vibes which
was the genesis of 'Minotaur':
"I was working some unforgiving hours in an unforgiving field for an
unforgiving number of days in a row during busy season and I noticed myself
clashing with one particular individual more then seemed situationally
standard. I always thought of them as "bull headed" and thus
associated them with being a minotaur and envisioned myself as Theseus, driving
a sword down their proverbial throat. Thankfully, in the long time it took for
this song to be written, recorded and released, this person seems to have found
their own ball of thread and escaped the labyrinth of negativity which was holding
them captive for some time. Perhaps you too can find some catharsis during
these troubled times in this reinterpreted underdog rising tale. Perhaps you
can sit in front of some loud as speakers while it's playing and feel at ease
with feeling uneasy."
