Animalhead have released their debut album Blood, Sweat & Beers today.
Blood, Sweat & Beers is an amalgamation of the past five years of gigging, writing and hanging out as a band. What started out as an idea to release a few songs, and potentially an EP, turned into a full length debut album. In 2017, Animalhead booked in a weekend slot at the Lab Recording Studio in Auckland. With a limited understanding of how a conventional album was made, they decided to record the instrumental parts of 15 tracks, in two days. Being told by many that the way they had recorded; no click-track, live, minimal pre-production and some songs in one take, made the recordings un-usable. Animalhead were at a crossroads. Deciding to soldier on with the tracks they had, they enlisted the help of the masterful Zorran Mendonsa. They finished recording the vocals, extras overdubs and mixes and now the band have come out the other end with a solid 10 song album, being released September 25th on all major streaming platforms, through DRM NZ.
West Auckland trio Animalhead channel a huge sound, the likes of Rage Against the Machine and Royal Blood. Comprising drummer Dan Rooke (Jerkstrom), bassist Josh O’Brien (Saints of Taboo) and Campbell Mickell. The three-piece formed at the beginning of 2015 after Dan returned from Europe. These three lads caught up for a beer and a jam and have been playing together ever since.
