The new school trio of Lester, Aunty Rae and Nahsafe brings together a cohesive and eclectic sound to bridge the gap between underground and mainstream. Almost two years since Lester's single Scene made waves in the lo-fi hip-hop community, featured on Majestic Casual, Sometimes is set to follow a similar path.
From the smoky notes of neo-soul singer Aunty Rae to the nostalgic narrative provided by Lester, Sometimes is sure to leave you homesick even in the comforts of your own home. The spellbinding guitar lines and crunchy synths are made seamless by the hands of Tamaki Makaurau producer Nahsafe, perfectly accompanying the singer/rapper duo who navigate the idea of belonging and a sense of self. Lester's version of home highlights both the mundane "...the toaster that's broken and only burns one side", as well as a spiritual connection through music, "singing songs in a place with a symphony is something like a feeling of acceptance universally". In a time of uncertainty and significant societal change, 'Sometimes' is a tribute to "home" as both a physical space and an internal place of comfort and sense of belonging.
Sometimes is the lead single off Lester's forthcoming EP, due for release at the end of 2020.
