Dharmarat’s unexpected yet highly-anticipated album Belial is out now on all streaming platforms.
Originally Dharmarat had no plans to release any solo music in 2020 and had only planned to release an album with group Valleyside Boys. When New Zealand went into lockdown, this gave Dharmarat time to create, resulting in a lot of new music that he knew he needed to released now. The first single Roam Feat. Elder got fans excited with the second multi-track release Geewhizz and reemixx, revealing that there is more to come.
The album, like previous release WLKNZ, is personal. However, WLKNZ touched on his mental health at that time whereas Belial dives into his past:
“The whole project is about letting go of all the negative energy I still have inside, from my childhood to now. I tried to make a soundtrack to my childhood basically. I brush over some of the darkest moments of my life and let out the anxiety & PTSD the best way I could. The album is full of screaming, something I've never really done to this extent till now.”
The new single Backin’ Out Feat. Kimz, which premiered on 95bfm on Thursday morning, ties the album together for the release. “I wanted to make a song that felt like parties I would be at, fun but kind of scary. It's just a typical macho “I'm the man” sort of rap song, featuring a killer verse from fellow VSB member Kimz. I switched the beat at the end and added my most recently recorded verse for the project, about fake people who take from American culture but are quiet during the travesties countless African Americans are facing daily.”
The album is available on all streaming platforms on October 9th via DRM NZ. Merchandise and a release show are in the works!

With the release of Belial and new single Backin’ Out Feat. Kimz also comes the release of the video for first single Roam. Like the Geewhizz video, this was directed by Connor Pritchard who Dharmarat considers 'the goat' and has wanted to work for a long time.
