Worthy is the seventh single from pop-punk group The Wake Up.
The Palmerston North based four-piece feature Laura McGaffin on vocals, drummer Caleb Hickmott, Chris Jordan on guitar, and recent addition Nathan Charles on bass. Over the last five years the band has continue to build a dedicated following, both in their home town and online, as well as having received airplay in Australia.
Originally penned by fellow Palmerston North musician Adam Lee, The Wake Up's cover of Worthy was produced and mixed by Mike Dwyer (Shawn Mendes, The Lumieers, Vance Joy) of The Bunker studios in New York state. After coming across The Wake Up on a social media site, Dwyer reached out to the band and asked if they would like to work together. Worthy is the product of that collaboration.
Hickmott, a founding member of The Wake Up explains: "Worthy is a song about hope, which is something we need in a world that is still coming to terms with life during the pandemic. I think it's also about accepting who you are and the process of learning and growing into who you are meant to be, and accepting that person".
