Now the talented singer and songwriter is preparing to reveal a live version of the song, which features a string quintet and 20-piece choir and was captured in St Paul's Cathedral in The Octagon. The song will be released on October 23 but before that, Abby is giving Dunedin friends, family and fans the chance to be the first to watch the live video, with a special screening on the big screen at New Athenaeum Theatre in Dunedin on October 22.
Abby will also perform an intimate unplugged show. Get tickets here.
The original version of Held By You was recorded and mixed by legendary NZ producer and engineer Simon Gooding (Pink, TEEKS) and mastered by the Grammy Award-winning Brian Lucey in LA. It is the first song from Abby’s upcoming EP, which she describes as a new chapter.
“It came about in such an honest and simple way,” Abby says of the songwriting process. “Sometimes when writing it feels like you're merely a vessel for words to be written and this was definitely one of those moments. Held by You, to me, is a reminder that I deserve safe, happy and healthy relationships and to never compromise my worth for another person.”
“The raw emotion, heartbreak and honesty that ballads bring is where I feel most at home and ‘Held by You’ is probably the rawest version of me that I've put out into the world yet,” she says. “I feel like I've come full circle, from starting writing songs in my bedroom with just an acoustic guitar to jumping into the pop world to now settling back into a happy medium. This is the chapter I've needed for a while now.”
Abby is an accomplished songwriter, who has worked with leading writers and producers from around the world, including Josh Fountain, Djeisan Suskov, Justin Gray, Nate Campany, Maize Ollinger and Emily Warren.
She has opened for chart-topping UK singer-songwriter Tom Walker, Australian indie-pop act Great Gable as well as performing with dance duo Chores and recently supporting Thomas Oliver. Catch her this summer at Bay Dreams in Tauranga.
