Band & Musician News - The Leers release new single 'This Love it Holds'

This Love it Holds, the new single from indie-rock band The Leers, is a strong statement of intent from a band who are stepping up from being local heroes to gracing New Zealand’s biggest summer festival line ups.
Coming off the back of their biggest shows yet, supporting L.A.B on their arena tour in July, The Leers are going from strength to strength.
This Love it Holds is a visceral ode to dying love partnered with a raw and energetic rhythm that switches between anger and desire. Taken from their forthcoming EP The Only Way Out Is In, out November 20, the single was recorded in Los Angeles at Mad Muse studios last year, home of their U.S. label In-Flight Music Group.
Lead singer Matt Bidois says the gigs with L.A.B were “mental”. “I think the biggest crowd we’d played before was 600 so going from that to 8000 was pretty gnarly…by the end of the set people were really getting into it which was rewarding.”
Formed in Mt Maunganui as teenagers, the band made it to the Smokefree Rockquest national finals in 2009 and released their debut album Are You Curious? in 2016. After being scouted and signed to In Flight Music Group in 2019, the band flew to LA to record the new EP in a state-of-the-art recording studio.
After touring together around Aotearoa for years, the band have nailed their live sound which shines through on the new EP. Now a five-piece with the addition of Kiki Rockwell on keys and vocals, the band is moving into a new phase where they’re ready to take their career from opening act to headliners.
Catch them at Rhythm and Vines, Kaleidoscope, Soundsplash and Electric Avenue festivals this summer.
“Easily worthy of their own headline slot, The Leers are exactly the reason why audiences should arrive early to catch the opening act.” Ambient Light
