He cites Afrobeat music pioneer & singer, Fela Kuti, Burna Boy & Patoranking as his inspiration which takes him to higher grace in lyric writing.
Born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. D.Matthews knew he was destined to entertain from a very young age during his times at church but did not realize how destined he really was to make a change/shift at a very young age as everything was still new to him at the time. As he grew older, he went on to take music as a career at age, 20. Releasing his first track in the year, 2018.
His career has since gone from strength to strength, from getting featured in Billboard, an internationally recognised pop culture and entertainment magazine, a gracefully impeccable performance at New Zealand’s Fashion Week (NZFW) in Aotearoa, 2019 to an upcoming music performance at Splore Festival with his band in 2021.
Aotearoa was classified as the second (2nd) safest country globally during the time of covid-19. The first to see sunrise, the structure of the hills & valleys cannot be compared with any other country.
This track was purposely made to embrace Aotearoa's peacefulness & prominent landscape.
In the clip, you will also see the implementation of the ‘tekoteko’ which represents the phenomenal culture of Aotearoa. Moreover, wiring the beat from the roots of Africa and still taking the lyrics to how the streets of Africa is addressed. Nigeria to be precise.
In the music video, you can see a glimpse of the commotion happening in America & Nigeria.
Amidst it all, the commotions that was present/active during the covid-19 crisis was not palatable in all spheres, but still, New Zealand stays steadfast in everything. Keeping at its highest toes as the second safest country worldwide during the time.
