Last year Adam Tukiri released his final album under the Dharmarat moniker, Belial, which still continues to do well coming into 2021. He even went on to play Rhythm & Vines - Garden Stage. Little did people know that during this time he was already starting to put Dharmarat on the back burner. Adam knew he wanted to do this, but didn’t think he would go through with it. After all his personal growth, cementing his name change and now the birth of his son, it was time.
He initially started to tease this change a bit by releasing a track titled Kia Ora on his YouTube channel. Even though he only meant it to be a taster of new music to come, it still managed to get picked up by 95BFM. “I was stoked as that Kia Ora got picked up by them because I made that in half an hour. It just gives me a little more faith that I don’t need to market myself got the extent I used too. I just make music and if it works, it works.” After a year of pushing new visuals, tracks and the album as well as his festival appearance, Adam has chosen to take a different approach with this release - no social media linked to the change and no pre-publicity etc. “I’m so removed from numbers now, so I’m not going to entertain them as much anymore.” Adam is still looking to perform and do some publicity but without the pressure of social media or trying to “blow-up”.
Though there are mentions of all this in Kia Ora, Adam dives into it more with his new single Important.
“The song is basically an I’m back' song. I go in about dealing with the industry and taking full control of my future, without the desire to 'blow-up'.”
Adam Tukiri is a rapper and producer from South Auckland, who created quite a name for himself under his previous moniker Dharmarat. There is just as much range in his discography as he has projects under his belt, having released 21 projects as Dharmarat, if you include his work with his group Valleyside Boys.
Adam Tukiri is bringing the focus back to the music and letting it speak for itself.
