Pop duo Foley slow it down on new single 'Better Than Love'

One of Aotearoa’s most loved duos, Foley, has dropped another epic tune, Better Than Love. It is the third single from their upcoming EP, Vacation, which is set for release on March 12.

Foley has slowed it down on Better Than Love, which fuses pop and R&B and explores the prospect of love versus the reality of love.

“The song explores the tentative beginning of a new relationship (‘let me be a little cautious’), not wanting to move too quickly and risk being let down (‘tryna save us from the torture’). It can be safer and easier to stay in one place emotionally, to not let yourself feel too much and get your hopes up (‘can we float without moving forward, we could just tread some water’).” says the duo.

Foley (AKA Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett) wrote Better Than Love with long time friends and collaborators Josh Naley (Wells*) and Jonathan Boyle (Julius Black), creating magic in the studio in just one day.

Ash says writing the song was a therapeutic experience for her.

Gabe has been in a relationship for a long time, and by comparison, I have been thrown into something completely new and terrifying. It's the first time the two of us have had really contrasting experiences like this in our writing. When you have been hurt in the past you get into the mindset that nothing can be as good as it seems. I felt at one point like I shouldn’t try anymore because the way I built love up in my head could never be a reality.”

Better Than Love is the third single from Foley’s upcoming second EP, Vacation. It follows on from the radio bangers Rendezvous and So Personal.

The new songs from the record help to round off what’s so far been a great summer for Foley, with an electrifying main stage slot at Rhythm & Vines and opening for a sold-out Six60 show in New Plymouth.

Catch Foley live with gigs for O-week at The Hub in Wellington on February 19, Union Hall in Dunedin on February 22, then their own headline show in Auckland at the Tuning Fork (all ages) on March 25. Foley also performs at the Peachy Keen Festival in Wellington on April 3.
