The May Project returns with ethereal new single The Last Waltz of Summer. Mastered by Peter Wood and produced, recorded and mixed by The May Project’s Katie Brown in her home studio, it follows on from 2020’s Bones and Buyer’s Remorse as the third track to be released from The May Project’s upcoming sophomore album, due for release mid year.
Crafted initially around a gentle piano lullaby, The Last Waltz of Summer plays out like a nostalgic reverie, gradually swelling and growing in both musical and emotional intensity as the song progresses. This intensity, coupled with the heartbeat-like kick and percussion grounding the signature layered, swirling vocals and synths, contributes to a sense of the proverbial 'riding off into the sunset’: it speaks to a journey of letting go of what has passed in order to step ahead into the unknown, turning to bid a softly melancholic farewell in the process. "I'll find my way / shake the dust of this old place from my feet / it's time to go,” Katie sings – a sentiment many can relate to in turning to face this new year with new hopes and dreams, despite what has been.
The single is accompanied by a capsule collection by Katie's designer clothing label, Etta Every.
