Have you ever been so eager to experience as much of life as you can, but also want to be present and savour every moment?
Waste My Time is about navigating that middle ground and trying not to waste what precious time you do have. In at time where we are faced with lockdowns, travel restrictions and other changes to basic functioning in life. This leads to an eagerness to run out and experience everything as soon as the restrictions are lifted, but what use is doing those things if we can't take the time to experience them and that is the core of what this song is about.
Waste My Time is an upbeat Indie Soul track that takes inspiration from acts like Tom Misch, Little Dragon and Drax Project. Emily Rice provides the sassy vocals that sit on top of a bed of carefully arranged guitar parts from Jarni Blair and all of this is produced by Matt Bizzle, who also adds his trademark saxophone sound.
Matt Bizzle is an Auckland based producer, DJ who has recently performed, recorded and done remixes for Jupiter Project, Molly & The Chromatics, and Sneakers. This will be his first release for 2021 and he plans to start the year off strong with this track.
Emily Rice is an artist who seems to have more projects than time. She is one half of the husband and wife Aotearoa Pop duo Aro, she is a contributor to gospel group House of Misfits and she leads her own solo Pop alternative project as Emily Rice.
Jarni Blair is another Auckland artist who is no stranger to the Aotearoa music scene. If you have ever heard a wailing guitar solo with Summer Thieves, then you have heard what Jarni can do. Proving that he can be more than just a guitarist, Jarni is also a competent and celebrated songwriter who has had a consistent string of releases.
