Germany-based pop artist Ant Utama is proud to share his playful new track Any Other Way, a super-cute, unconventional love song, co-written and produced by Campbell Paget, with an official video due for release Friday October 15th.
"Any Other Way was written for couples in long term relationships," says Ant about the inspiration behind the track. "You know what I mean... instead of going out to fancy dinners and bars, staying on the couch, wearing sweatpants and watching Netflix.
"Once that honeymoon period is over, we get comfortable, and some don't like that, but I love it! I've been with my girl for 6 years now. Earlier in our relationship we backpacked the world and had heaps of adventures. Now life is a bit more settled, but it's great.
"It's an achievement and something to embrace when you know your significant other so well you can be completely comfortable as yourself, and for me that's sweatpants on the couch".
Born and raised in Howick and working the 9-5 grind in the corporate sector, Ant, tired of his current state and much to the dismay of his parents, packed up one day and headed to Germany to follow his heart and his dreams, and it has paid off. The 2020 release of his debut EP Brave has amassed over 250k streams, with Ant now on the path to completing his second body of work.
"I was raised by very loving and conservative Asian parents, who taught me how to be safe and secure in life. To them, that was the ticket to happiness. They were proud of my corporate career and were pretty shocked and concerned when I told them I was off to Germany to pursue music. I guess most parents would be, especially seeing their son busking on the street for a living.
"It's been three years now, and I'm slowly showing them that I know what I'm doing. I know they're proud and they're coming around".
Busking on the streets of Cologne, he had many interactions with friendly passers-by, realising he wasn't the only one going through a transformative journey; "So many people are hustling. To change career paths, start new businesses, or simply do what makes them happy. Almost all of the time, they were up against the criticism of family, friends and society as a whole"
Armed with new experiences and encounters through his travels, Ant has found his purpose as an artist; to inspire and encourage people to follow their dreams and aspirations.
"Take a risk in life, take a leap, and have fun along the way" - Ant Utama
