Naaku is the latest offering from bilingual musician Jaqualyn Taimana Williams (Jaqi). This track is a dramatic and intense love song in te reo Māori. Naaku means “mine”.
A rock track with elements of country and folk, Naaku is based on her personal journey of self-discovery as a Māori adoptee of the late 1960's. Jaqi has recently moved to Kirikiriroa to work at Te Wānanga O Aotearoa. Reconnecting with her iwi and whakapapa, the cover art of Naaku shows one of her māunga, Pirongia.
