Achilles Complex is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, Jack In.
The story of Jack In picks up where Vice left off, exploring our concerns about social media, mobile devices and AI-driven growth in the tech sector, and their intersection with our senses of self and identity.
Jack In began as a compositional experiment in Harley’s home studio where he blended synthwave influences with their signature rock riffs to create a new and exciting sound. When he brought the first demo to the table the band immediately began fleshing out a full structure and pitching lyrical ideas which piggyback off the concepts explored in Vice. Jack In speculates about the modern human condition, whispering promises of pleasure in the ears of the listener in exchange for their partaking in the great machine. As alluring and seductive as this pitch is, however, the contrasting textural and arrangement elements serve to call into question whether we are being told the whole story and whether the ensuing trajectory is a positive one.
“The demo sounded like a continuation of Vice, with heavy riffs supported by electronic synth layers and a smooth build into soaring vocals” - Harley Flynn, Guitarist/Vocalist
“The lyrics flowed very naturally, almost conversationally. After all, why wouldn’t you want to experience peace, or pleasure, or ecstasy, or any of these things you’re being promised?” - Reece Gielen, Guitarist/Vocalist
Achilles Complex recorded the single at Harley’s home studio using a combination of in-the-box plugins and hardware outboard gear to achieve the cleanest recordings the band has achieved to date. Caleb Bird (AKA Biobird on Soundcloud) was brought on as mix engineer to bring out the full potential and apply his wealth of experience as an Electronic music producer.
