Stacked with crunchy dance synths, infectious syncopated rhythms and Sophie-Maude’s powerhouse vocals, the track is energetic; matched with lyrics that talk to the thrill of being around a magnetic, exciting person.
“The song is about connecting with a person on a deeper level than you ever have before,” says Sophie-Maude.
Co-written by Joseph Thompson, Nathan Sowter and Sophie-Maude, the single was recorded, mixed and mastered by Nathan Sowter at Link Flamingo Studios in Mount Maunganui.
“When Joseph, Nathan and I were writing it, it all happened so fast - we were all so passionate about it. All of these ideas just kept coming out of nowhere. We were musically vomiting. Collectively we knew what lyrics were going to be where and everything fit together perfectly. It really was a special day for me,” continues Sophie-Maude.
Stylistically, Take Me Away hints at the direction Sophie-Maude is heading with her music.
“I feel like I’m progressing and really starting to hone in my own style,” she explains. “I’m becoming more aware about what is happening in the world around me. The more I learn, the more I’m able to put myself into the music I create and in turn, that is helping me to become a better songwriter.”
Born and raised in Tauranga, Sophie-Maude makes music that is driven by a desire to motivate, inspire and tell her story her way. By drawing from her own life experiences and coping with Autism, ADHD, OCD and Tourette’s syndrome, she articulates stories and shared perspectives that connect with audiences across the spectrum.
Sophie-Maude first emerged on the R&B-pop scene with the singles Insane and Only One, and featured on renowned Kiwi act Deadbeat’s new single Diamonds alongside hip-hop producer and DJ, Joey illah.
Today’s release Take Me Away, follows the successful release of her recent single Comfortable, which firmly places her at the heart of a new wave of up-and-coming ‘ones to watch’ on the New Zealand music scene.
