New Zealand's Mark de Clive-Lowe is releasing his new album Freedom - Celebrating the Music of Pharoah Sanders this Friday, July 1 via Soul Bank Records/!K7 Music.
The double album features some dear, insanely talented musicians - Dwight Trible on vocals, Teodross Avery on sax, Carlos Nino on percussion, Tommaso Cappellato on drums and Corbin Jones on bass and sousaphone - and was recorded live at the sadly-no-longer Blue Whale in LA. The original artwork is by Japanese artist Tokio Aoyama (who also created the paintings which graced the covers of Heritage and Heritage II).
Mark says, "We gathered to play homage to the living legend and master teacher who truly needs no introduction - one of the most important musical voices of the 20th century and a man whose work embodies so much more than just the notes his music contains. Especially with the world (heavy emphasis on the USA corner of our planet here!) being in a state of confusion and misguidance led by those who only want to control us more, Freedom is a clarion call to action and statement of our humanity as much as a tribute to a very beloved musical elder and inspiration."
The album is being released on 2 LP gatefold double vinyl, double CD, download and streaming platforms.
