Self-described ‘patron saint of self-sabotage’, Christchurch based artist Emma Dilemma today releases her debut album Spit.
The rising star combines her penchant for viewing life through an absurdist lens, with her love for melody and storytelling to create serious music that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
With a nonstop start to her career, Emma released a Side A to the album in 2021, as well as a string of singles this year – giving fans taste of what to expect.
Emma Dilemma has a clear set vision for her craft. Not only does the creative powerhouse write and produce her own music, but she also choreographs and co-directs her own music videos.
What we’ve seen of the album so far has packed a powerful punch, a roll out of unbelievably creative visuals alongside each track. Fans were particularly taken with Vulnerability, a single that lyrically explored anxiety and deeper issues. Paired with a Napoleon Dynamite themed music video, the single also showcased Emma’s special lighthearted lens and ability to have a sense of humour.
To celebrate today’s release also marks the drop of a brand new music video for her epic single ‘Breeders’, with an equally creative must watch music video. Watch now here.
Spit gives Emma’s audience an insight into her sense of unease with the world we’ve found ourselves facing in recent years. After delaying and rescheduling her album release and nationwide tour due to NZ’s lockdowns, the country’s long awaited shift back to the live music scene means Emma Dilemma has a lot to celebrate. The release of Spit kickstarts a series of live dates across the North and South Island.
