Following hot on the heels of Carousel - the first single from their forthcoming album Old Dreams - Anxiety Club will release follow-up single Lonely Dancing on 29 July 2022.
Carousel - which has landed on numerous playlists (including Spotify editorial playlist Alt Here) and radio rotations in it’s first few weeks of release - was a hazy slice of melancholic dream pop. This new song however, is an entirely different beast.
Lonely Dancing is audacious synth-pop fun. It is big hooks, funk guitar, a danceable beat and a dial-up modem solo. A conventional floor-filler this is not.
It’s a song about hedonism – but only after the chores are done. It’s about going out – but not too late. It’s about dancing – even if you have to dance alone. This is Dad Disco.
Anxiety Club is an indie-pop band from Pōneke/Wellington. Formed in 2017 they have released a series of critically acclaimed singles and EPs.
In 2022 they will release debut album Old Dreams. Recorded over the lockdown years, core members Kev Fitzsimons and Clint Meech assembled an international team to help bring their vision to life. The band includes Chris Armour (Miles Calder band) on guitars, Andrew Bain (Fur Patrol) on bass and LA-based beat-maker Zach Simao. Mixed by Londoner Will Donbavand (Dermot Kennedy), Old Dreams' central theme of the trials of growing-up is explored across delicate piano ballads, dreamy synth landscapes, dance anthems and a decent helping of indie pop. It’s a record of depth and maturity. And dial-up modem solos.
Lonely Dancing will be available on all streaming platforms from 29 July 2022, and should appeal to fans of acts like SJD, Hot Chip, Pulp, The Killers, LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Metronomy, David Bowie and The Phoenix Foundation.
