With more than 38 thousand Spotify streams for his latest reo single Te Aroha Mauroa, MOHI’s latest track dives into the funk, fusing it with his soulful voice, and will build towards his first EP as a solo artist.
Jasmine has an organic sound, with the help of producer Dan Martin, MOHIs guitar playing is part of the track itself. It also focuses on bringing his exceptional voice to the forefront to showcase a very special vocal talent.
“I hope that when people feel the groove in this song and it makes them dance all day and night long.”
“When I was composing this song, I really wanted to create a song that would make people want to boogie - I wanted to create a feel good, funky, groovy track for everyone.”
MOHI says the inspiration for this song comes from a wānanga pounamu he was involved in last year. “I was at a wānanga with one of my tuakana. We were crafting some hei toki for our whānau. It was my first go at mahi pounamu so I was really trying to soak all the mātauranga in and learn about all the different aspects that go into mahi pounamu.
“This song is written about that process. Of course, I’ve tried to craft the words to give listeners a bit to think about, it may even be interpreted as a love song which is cool too. Mā te hunga whakarongo e wetewete” says MOHI.
The EP is MOHI’s first full project as an independent artist, along with the musical guidance of Dan Martin.
Jasmine is now available on all streaming platforms.
