Dateline is the musical project of Katie Everingham (she/her), a musician and songwriter currently based in Heretaunga (Hastings). Her band is made up of the cream of Tāmaki Makaurau’s (Auckland) indie and alternative crop featuring Callum Devlin (he/him, Hans Pucket), Priya Sami (she/her, Bub) and Ruby Walsh (she/her Lips).
Dateline's music oozes emotion by blending earnest harmonies that hark back to early 00's indie pop, with the cool
burn of UK guitar groups from the 90s. Special note must be made of Everingham's lyricism, as she encapsulates the mixed feelings and insecurities that arise from getting older.
Today Dateline share
a new song Love Hertz, the final single from their debut album Dumb For My Age (out on August 27 via Sunreturn). It comes with a killer new music video directed by Olivia McClymont.
Love Hertz wears its grunge inspiration on its sleeve. The track is three minutes of devotional pop, disguised by chugging distortion, and wicked fuzz.
"I think I was just being a bit moody when I wrote this," says Everingham. "It's me kind of complaining while acknowledging that actually life and love is good and I wouldn't change anything, but I may just go "humph" from time to time."
