Band & Musician News - Dateline shares new single and video 'Love Hertz'

Dateline shares new single and video 'Love Hertz'

05 August 2022 - 0 Comments

Dateline is the musical project of Katie Everingham (she/her), a musician and songwriter currently based in Heretaunga (Hastings). Her band is made up of the cream of Tāmaki Makaurau’s (Auckland) indie and alternative crop featuring Callum Devlin (he/him, Hans Pucket), Priya Sami (she/her, Bub) and Ruby Walsh (she/her Lips).

Dateline's music oozes emotion by blending earnest harmonies that hark back to early 00's indie pop, with the cool burn of UK guitar groups from the 90s. Special note must be made of Everingham's lyricism, as she encapsulates the mixed feelings and insecurities that arise from getting older.

Today Dateline share a new song Love Hertz, the final single from their debut album Dumb For My Age (out on August 27 via Sunreturn). It comes with a killer new music video directed by Olivia McClymont.

Love Hertz wears its grunge inspiration on its sleeve. The track is three minutes of devotional pop, disguised by chugging distortion, and wicked fuzz.

"I think I was just being a bit moody when I wrote this," says Everingham. "It's me kind of complaining while acknowledging that actually life and love is good and I wouldn't change anything, but I may just go "humph" from time to time."

Dateline - Love Hertz

Love Hertz was recorded by Callum Passells (Hans Pucket, The Saxobros), mixed by Jonathan Pearce (The Beths) and mastered by Oliver Devlin (Hans Pucket). "The recording process was fun, we were just hanging out and playing music! Then we layered some percussion, viola and Callum's perfect guitar solo. I think Jon's magic mixing touch helped the song to sound grungy and chuggy!"

The song is accompanied by a music video made by Olivia McClymont and stars all of the members of Dateline, Annabel Kean (Sports Team ), and Geo Bidois as the Doctor.

Love Hertz was an extraordinarily fun music video to make," says McClymont. When asked how she approached making the video responds that "the premise for the Love Hertz is a bit literal! It’s about how far you’ll go to be with your ‘true’ love… even if that love isn't reciprocated. Sometimes love truly hurts! Perhaps this is a bit of a warning to anyone who might think otherwise? Self-love before all other kinds of people!"

"In the video, Katie figures the only way she can be with the Doctor she’s enamoured with is if she has legitimate reasons to go to the hospital… but is it all worth it in the end? (short answer - no, haha)."

Love Hertz is the final single to be released from Dateline's upcoming album Dumb For My Age. The digital only release promises new tracks alongside the previously released songs
Do It Right, If You Want It, Dumb For My Age and Such A Bitch.
