Pōneke garage rockers DARTZ have unleashed a new teaser from their upcoming debut record The Band from Wellington, New Zealand, in the form of pop-punk tinged new single No Dogs at this Party.
One of two previously unrecorded tracks from the album (releasing Friday 4 November via Flying Nun Records), No Dogs at this Party presents the introspective and anxious other side of the coin to the beer-soaked party anthems that are DARTZ’s bread and butter.
A fan favourite and live set staple for the band from Wellington, New Zealand, the song’s slow and narrative start delves into a relatable tale of being stuck at a punishing party where all you need is a canine companion to inject some positivity into your night. DARTZ singer and lyricist Danz admits he wanted to "stay at home, cry, eat and jerk off" before getting dragged out to a sub-par social event where "goddamn James has got a guitar and he's playing Wonderwall".

According to Danz, writing No Dogs at this Party was a calculated risk that paid off: “With No Dogs, I really wanted to take that very classic DARTZ song setting of a house party and invert it - tell a story about not feeling like you want to party or even be there at all. It was really spun together from a bunch of specific experiences that I’ve been through so I’ve always been really stoked that people love it live and have told me they really relate to the lyrics.”
No Dogs at this Party is the album closer to the upcoming ten-track debut record from DARTZ: The Band from Wellington, New Zealand. Recorded live at Roundhead Studios with producer Steven Marr, the album promises to showcase DARTZ at the height of their performative powers. The Band from Wellington, New Zealand will be released on Friday 4 November via Flying Nun Records and is available for pre-order on vinyl and CD now.
Never the types to shy away from the opportunity for raucous celebration, DARTZ have also today announced an album release tour for The Band from Wellington, New Zealand, to take place in early December 2022. Taking their infectious party-punk fun back out on the road across Aotearoa, the tour includes two dates supporting Australian heroes The Chats in Auckland and Wellington, as well as headline shows in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Hamilton.
Tickets are available now from undertheradar.co.nz (Christchurch & Dunedin) and thechatslovebeer.com (Auckland & Wellington).
