Following his Aotearoa Music Award nomination, multi-platinum selling R&B artist Jackson Owens (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Awa, Te Arawa, Ngāi Tahu) has dropped his latest single If You Let Me Go.
Following the breakthrough release of his debut EP For The Better, Owens is excited to kick off summer with this soulful, heartfelt summer anthem – the first of a string of new releases set for release in 2023.
“Going into the studio, I wanted to create a summer jam that brings people together. And like all of my music, it had to be authentic and meaningful.
“I’m super proud of what we landed on with Don’t Let Me Go. I think it’s a track lots of people will relate to, and everyone can jam to.”
With a catchy beat and an anthemic chorus, If You Let Me Go is a venture into a purer pop territory for Jackson. Meanwhile his signature, soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics bring the emotion and point to Jackson’s historic musical influences – Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Stevie Wonder.
“With production references similar to that of Major Lazer and SZA, Jackson’s new track breaks the current boundaries of what we heard on For The Better but also proves that Jackson Owens can make whatever sound, genre or vibe he touches his own,” says Rory Noble, head of indigenous-led independent record label Five AM.
“Jackson is an old soul with a fresh look and sound. And he’s a humble family man, but has that once in a generation kind of raw talent and voice. I really think it won’t be long until he takes on the world. He’s got all the makings of a real artist.”
Accompanying the main release is a house remix by Auckland DJ Collective 06 Twist.
Jackson will perform his first ever headline show in Auckland at Galatos on December 2nd, tickets are available here. Pre-sale tickets sold out within hours and remaining tickets are limited.
If You Let Me Go is available now on all streaming platforms.
