Rising Kiwi singer, songwriter and rapper Jake is rounding off a hugely successful year with the release of another killer single What’s Happening – out now!

What’s Happening is a smooth and silky tune, which brims with the euphoria of summer. Jake’s effortlessly cool vocal delivery sits atop a funk-filled beat, which draws you into the carefree lyrics.

“The song was inspired by my experience of young summer love in the city of Barcelona,” explains Jake.

The song came to life in a songwriting session with Jake and upcoming producers Ethan Jupe and Tom Rede.

“This was the first thing Ethan played on the guitar. I just started singing What’s Happening. The vibe and energy was on point in the studio and I just started thinking of my memories in Barcelona. It was one of those refreshing sessions where things just flowed.”

The song was then recorded with renowned producer/engineer John Garcia and mastered by Dominic ‘Dot’ Okune.

What’s Happening is just the latest in a string of winning tracks from the talented up-and-comer from Hawke’s Bay, who has amassed close to 700,000 streams on Spotify alone since bursting onto the scene in late 2021 with Waiting List. He followed it up in 2022 with Podium and then Westside.

The singles showcase a talented young artist, whose low-key, but vibe-packed style and sound, stands him out as an act primed to make waves. Stay tuned for more!
