The Terrace End Tapes EP tells an emotive, personal story of love and pain. Chase pulls together a diverse portfolio of music, harmonizing the duality between singing and rapping, creating a fresh and innovative sound to share his childhood experiences.
Chase quotes: "Roaches is a song that tells you how far I’ve come from my upbringing which is reflected in the hook, “Roaches on the dresser to smoking out the windows of the Tesla”. Although I’m far from where I want to be, this song is like a checkpoint. The song has reggae elements that take me back to my childhood and I think that’s why it’s one of my favourite songs on the EP. Shush and I really tapped into a whole new level that we never thought we’d reach, so now, I’m excited for what’s to come”.
Chase Woods, a Māori living in Palmerston North, New Zealand, is growing emotionally and musically. Having moved back to ‘Palmy’ (home) during lockdown and like all of us, questioning life, he wrote a bunch of songs about his childhood.
Support for the artist continues to gather pace since the release of Date Night in early 2021. Chase has been playlisted by Spotify New Zealand’s New Music Friday and added to their On Air, 22 New Tracks compilation, received plaudits from hip hop tastemakers Word Is Bond and Speed on the boat, as well as played a host of gigs and festivals in New Zealand. Chase will announce more live shows in 2023, he says of his music career ‘When it blooms, what will you do? Grow with it or get lost in the shadow’
