Te-Whanganui-a-Tara is full of incredible musicians & performers, but they aren’t the only ones who make this city‘s music so great! There are loads of people behind the scenes who work tirelessly to bring you the best of our beautiful city, so RadioActive.FM think it’s time they are given the spotlight.
They’re on the hunt to expose the “Unsung Heroes” of our community, from the gig-goers to the makers-and-shakers. Whether you’ve partied hard at one of their events, supported local music at their store or just seen them out and about, these are the people that have helped shape Wellington’s good times.
The first season's 7 part series features Clare Gillard from Psy-Care NZ, Leah Thomas from Pōneke Classical Sessions, Nicoletta Mancuso from Vogelmorn Community Group, Apa Chappel (AKA "Boss Dude") from Creeps Record Parlour, James Goldsmith from The Surgery & his own recording work, Hikurangi-Schaverien-Kaa from various bands (Mireya Ramos, French For Rabbits, Dawn Diver, Goldsmith Baynes, Grawlixes, etc) and Joel Cosgrove from Eyegum Music Collective. Unsung Heroes was made with support from NZ On Air Music. Season 1 of Unsung Heroes was created by Cameron Cook, Aimee Somerville and Harri Robinson.
Aimee Somerville, director of Unsung Heroes first season, says this of the project “I was so lucky to korero with some of Te Whanganui a Tara's finest creatives during the making of this project, and get a glimpse into the method behind the magic of the Wellington music scene. The love that these folks put into their work is totally inspiring.”
