Gold Coast indie folk songstress Hannah May is intentionally starting the year on a bright note with her brand new fun-loving single Meet Me In The Middle, a fast paced enthusiastic alt pop track with a contagious hook that is later emphasized by a funky trumpet solo. With just subtle influences from the likes of Jeremy Loops and Vance Joy, the track sits in its own lane, perfectly capturing the essence of May's authentic style. As far as meaning behind the track, May once again takes inspiration from her own personal experiences and in this case writes about the ups and downs of a long term relationship and as she describes “letting go of the turmoil that we sometimes experience as lovers and remembering what brought us together to start with”.

May rides a wave of evolution and growth, never settling in a particular realm of music. Meet Me in the Middle is reflective of that idea with its experimentation of musical elements. Recorded and produced by Tim Goodburn of Bignote Productions in Burleigh Heads (Hollow Coves, The Dreggs), the track starts off spacious and delicate, quickly building into a bouncy folk pop anthem with a souring horn section towards the end. May knew from the moment she began writing the song in 2021 that it would make the cut as a single. She explains ‘The chorus idea came first, and rest followed months later but I always knew there was something unique and special about the song. Being honest and vulnerable in a song can feel cringy and scary but it's what helps people to feel connected to your music.”
In 2015, May appeared on X-Factor New Zealand as one half of duo Mae Valley, who went on to release a number of chart topping releases with Sony Music and open for megastars like Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini. Five years on and making waves in a new country, May already has a collection of acclaimed singles under her belt and is gearing up for an exciting year of new releases, festival slots and headlining shows.
