New Zealand’s progressive bluegrass supergroup, You, Me, Everybody, are pleased to announce the re-release of Stranger from their self titled debut EP as a single, to support the feature of the band and the song in the second series of Aotearoa filmed Netflix series, 'Sweet Tooth'.

The band came to the attention of the producers when they answered a request for a bluegrass band for a television appearance on the Kiwifolk Facebook page. A friend of the band replied saying “the only New Zealand bluegrass band you want is You, Me, Everybody”. Band member, Kim Bonnington, quickly agreed with the post and sent details and links to their music. “Within 30 minutes I was on the phone with the talent agent who was telling me she loved our music. She was stopping the search and putting us forward”.

The song that captured their attention was Stranger, written by vocalist and guitarist, Laurence Frangos-Rhodes. Predominantly upbeat but written in a minor key, the song was perfect for the series’ dark tone yet uplifting messages. Laurence says: “Stranger is about not being able to trust people at first sight; it asks you to think twice before making assumptions. I think that’s why they wanted the song. Gus and the hybrids are misjudged and blamed for ‘the sick’ that has taken over the earth, but they are sentient beings just like us. They also learn who they can trust and can’t trust as the series develops”.

Stranger is now available on all streaming platforms

A New Zealand tour will be announced in coming weeks.

You, Me, Everybody (Aotearoa Music Awards) Best Folk Artist Finalist for 2021), have gained national recognition for pushing boundaries to create their own form of New Zealand’s progressive bluegrass. Their music challenges the usual rhythms and chord patterns of traditional bluegrass to create songs that feature more complex and nuanced emotional subjects such as alienation and isolation, in addition to the staples of whiskey, love and loss.

The band was founded by brothers Laurence Frangos-Rhodes (guitar and vocals), Sam Frangos-Rhodes (vocals, mandolin and fiddle), and features James Geluk (bass), Kim Bonnington (vocals) and Nat Torkington (banjo). Aaron Stewart plays the role of the bass player in 'Sweet Tooth' as James Geluk is currently overseas.
