Sitting in a Wellington café, Clint Meech overheard a conversation between two friends and one of them was complaining about their one-way relationship with a Korean Restaurant. Clint explains,
“It seemed that this person wasn’t just into the food, but in some way wanted to be part of the team or family that ran the restaurant. But no matter how hard they tried – they had even learnt some Korean – all attempts to win them over received the same cool responses as they always had. Not only was their story a little relatable – we’ve all been shunned at cool bars and restaurants, right (right?) – but I also thought this is totally a metaphor for unrequited love”
The song wrote itself pretty quickly and then Clint with brother Gareth went about building a suitably fun production around it. The end result is a catchy piece of synth-heavy bedroom pop. Vivien Reid (Orangefarm) guests on backing vocals.
