Wānaka based pop singer-songwriter Luca George today announces his debut EP You’ll Never Know Me Sober, out July 28th via Platoon. Alongside this announcement, Luca also shares new single Godless. Receiving its world premiere on ZM’s Late Show With Cam Mansel last night, Luca’s remarkable talent shines on Godless as he combines his soulful vocals with poetic lyrics to create a profoundly moving musical experience.
Of the track Luca shares: ‘‘Godless is a story about attending my own funeral. We have all thought about what that would be like, seeing those who show up, who gives speeches, and listening to what they say about you. After watching everyone, including my mother and siblings give speeches, I realise that certain people who I felt were dearest to my heart weren’t there. This song is for those people. The people who say they love you but are never there when you need them most, even in our last moments. This song calls them out, that they weren't there for the important moments, calling them selfish. “I bet you really want to tell me now, that you miss me and you’re sorry but I’m six feet underneath the ground” I want this song to act as a reminder to value important relationships and not take them for granted.’
Godless follows a prolific 2023 for Luca. He was recently selected by Australian pop royalty Troye Sivan as the sole NZ artist to be invited to take part in the APRA SongHubs songwriting camp in Sydney alongside the likes of Montaigne, Keiynan Lonsdale and Alex the Astronaut, which coincided with the release of his first single of 2023 Blue Again.
Luca George is a 20 year old pop singer/songwriter and horticulturist from Wānaka, who funded his initial music-making activities by cultivating and selling rare and exotic plants. Luca’s ‘unhealthy addiction to indoor plants’ can be followed in full on his plant account The Indoor Forest.
Luca is the first New Zealand artist to be signed with Platoon, the London-based artist development company known for the early-stage career development of artists including Billie Eilish, Holly Humberstone, Yebba, Jorja Smith and many more.
Having recently performed captivating live shows opening for Callum Scott and Harper Finn, Luca is poised to embark on a new chapter in his career. The announcement of his EP and the release of his latest single mark an exciting turning point for Luca, solidifying his position as one of Aotearoa's most promising up-and-coming talents. With his undeniable talent and burgeoning popularity, Luca is undoubtedly on the path to becoming one of the brightest stars in the music scene.
